Brainstorm Productions was established in 1983 and is the winner of the NSW Dept of Education Performing Arts Unit's Frater Award "Best Feedback from Schools" category for ten consecutive years. We have also been awarded an Australian Violence Prevention Award from the Australian Institute of Criminology.
The creative team at Brainstorm Productions have used their combined 60 years of experience in the education system, then stepped outside the school environment to take a fresh look at how children can make sense of their thoughts, feelings and behaviour. We are dedicated to creating an event that will have a lasting impression, and challenge even the most cynical child to examine their patterns of behavior.  The Brainstorm team relish the challenges of incorporating sound educational principles and clear strategies for positive changes in behavior, with a mind-blowing theatrical experience. We take great delight in directing talented young actors, who become great role models for students right across Australia.
Director and Scriptwriter Jenny Johnson is an accomplished actress with over twenty-five years experience directing and writing theatre-in-education shows. Jenny has also been a classroom teacher, having taught at Infants, Primary, Secondary, TAFE and University levels of education.
Paul Johnson, Scriptwriter, is a professional psychologist, actor and director of theatre, video and television. Paul has written over 35 educational plays for children on social issues. As a practising School Counsellor he is able to draw on children's real-life experiences to develop the shows.
Musical Director Sean Peter has worked as a sound designer and composer for many of Australia's leading arts companies, including The Sydney Symphony Orchestra, The Sydney Theatre Company, Company B and the Sydney Opera House. Sean composes and writes the theme songs and soundscapes for all Brainstorm's shows.
We tackle the toughest issues: cyber bullying; violence; prejudice; harassment; child abuse; domestic violence; peer pressure; grief; eating disorders; substance abuse; depression; family separation; values education and discrimination! Through our wide experience and extensive research and feedback, we package our shows to present sophisticated, curriculum relevant responses to the increasingly stressful demands being made on teachers.
The administrative staff at Brainstorm Productions pride themselves on training the actors in every facet of OH&S and Codes of Conduct in schools. We understand the challenges that teachers face, and make the booking process simple and stress free.
We are committed to running an ethical, independent business without corporate sponsorship or advertising, while keeping the ticket price affordable.
Brainstorm Productions tours in schools throughout QLD, NSW, ACT, VIC, SA and TAS. Every school day up to twenty-seven Brainstorm shows entertain and inspire thousands of children. We receive a continuous flow of letters, e-mails, cards, stories, drawings and other heartwarming responses from children and teachers who have loved the shows.
