Meet the Actors
We take great delight in casting and directing talented young actors, who become great role models for children across Australia.
John: Cheap Thrills
I'm just a normal person with normal interests. I have dealt with some of the issues that the shows tackle. I've learnt from personal experiences and from the shows that if you stay true to yourself and look after your mates, things tend to work out!
Rachel: Verbal Combat and Wired
I love that each day with Brainstorm Productions. It’s always new and exciting and I get to go back to school and do fun shows that help kids that are struggling with bullying and mental health problems. I love it when teachers think I’m a student!
|Sam: Saving Lil and Archie and The Hurting Game
I'm a 20-year-old Brisbane actor. The Brainstorm Productions experience was the greatest professional kick-start I could ever have hoped for.
My performance background is largely street theatre and I thought "what better way to see the country while rocking a pair of sweet robot pants?". Love giving kids ideas for coping with bullying and seeing their faces when they’re totally in there with you.
Blake: The Protectors and Cyberia
Basic abilities: Acting, dancing and singing (in the shower mainly)
Special abilities: Creative writing, walking on hands, smooth talker.
Brainstorm Productions has by far been one of the best experiences of my life. Not only have I travelled to places I’ve never discovered before, but the kids I perform to have completely enhanced my experience. Memorable moments include a 7 year old child who amazed me by quoting Oscar Wilde, which has coincidently become one of my new life mottos: "Be yourself because everyone else is taken".
While I draw most of my power from acting, I’ll often be found raiding dungeons, slaying dragons or simply sitting by the mail box waiting for my Hogwarts acceptance letter to arrive.
Emily: The Protectors and Cyberia
At preschool while all the girls fought over the bridal gown, I was slipping into the clown costume.
I love Woody Allen movies, milkshakes and jumping in puddles.
Brainstorm Productions has been one of the greatest experiences of my life.
It's the students that make Brainstorm Productions the best job ever. And I would like to thank them all for making my year so wonderful.
Cassie: Buddies and Cyberia
26. Aries. Enjoys karaoke, popcorn, Zac Efron and pop music. Always wanted to be a dolphin trainer. Fell into acting early, and can't get out.
My Brainstorm Productions experience is: kids smiling, laughing, cheering, singing the songs, doing the actions, answering all the questions, getting the message about bullying and staying safe. Teachers smiling, laughing, giving us 10/10. Touring. Having photos with "Big Things". Discovering towns.
David I: Buddies and Cyberia
Born in Brisbane 22 years ago but living and working in Melbourne. Degree in Music Theatre at University of Ballarat. Working with Brainstorm Productions has been challenging and great for my professional development.
Favourite film at the moment is ‘The Perks of Being a Wallflower’.
Love it when the audience gets so immersed in the story they totally forget where they are. Love the little kids and the regular hi 5’s and the way they have the perfect answers to my questions. “Who can you talk to when you’re afraid or sad?” Kindie kid in the front row screams ‘Poppa!!!!’.
Mitchell: The Hurting Game
24. Music Theatre Performer aka jack of all trades. Aspires to originate a leading role in an original musical (is that so much to ask?).
Loves: Flume, Stephen Kings (& Sondheim) and Ben & Jerry's!
Best thing about Brainstorm Productions: Tasmania, meeting new people and getting to travel the country staying in amazing places. Adorable primary school student - "When you cried in the show I had tears in my eyes too!"
Favourite line: "To win the Hurting Game don’t play!”
A country boy who truly enjoys the vagabond lifestyle touring offers. Love exploring new towns and cities listening to the eternally brilliant Johnny Cash and Nick Cave, to Mos Def and the White Stripes.
Love the responses from the audience. When my character in ‘Wired’ asks for help with his problems a year 11 lad in the front row is genuinely concerned for me. His advice: "Baby steps, mate, baby steps".
Seth: Buddies and Verbal Combat
I have a dance and musical background. I try to be versatile, intuitive and multifaceted. I like to start my character development by exploring my character’s physicality so I was really lucky to work with Matt Wells (Studied at Jacques Lecoq in Paris) in rehearsal.
The best thing about the Brainstorm Productions experience is what you learn about yourself both personally and professionally.
I love the little kids faces, reactions and comments. They really get that we need to be kind to ourselves and each other. The big kids get it too!
Hayley: Being Brave
Love: Mellow music, health and fitness.
Favourite Movie: 'La vie en rose' - spectacular performance
Ambition: Theatre and character actress
Talent: Playing men (male characters!), rubber face.
Brainstorm Productions is the most amazing experience. Love when children don't realise that I play all six characters in Being Brave. Love creating joy and laughter for kids... Simply amazing. Love the job cause I can relate to the shows.
Fav Line: "It’s ok for boys to cry. In my country Italian men, they cry all the time!"
Rosie: Buddies and Verbal Combat
I'm 22, live in Brisbane, my favourite colour is Red, I adore any song written by Jason Mraz.
Love Brainstorm Productions ‘cause children keep your sense of fun alive and always keep you guessing.
Children are the toughest audience but it’s awesome because I know we’re teaching them about why kids bully and how to handle it so it doesn’t break their poor little hearts!
I get the opportunity to work for a super organised company, meet like-minded people, perform to thousands of kids every week and travel around the country. My touring partner is pretty great to :)
Jamila: Saving Lil and Archie and The Hurting Game
22 from Brisvaga. Music tastes are old skewl. Oasis “What’s the Story” and guilty pleasure Britney Spears . Yes really!
Fav movie is “The Birdcage” and fav food is freckles and chilli. Lifelong ambition was to be BatGirl.
At 156 cm tall it seemed unlikely until Brainstorm Productions asked me to suit up as a robot and a martial arts guru, singing, dancing and cart wheeling as part of my daily job description.
Brainstorm Productions has been the most rewarding awesome job ever. Visiting hundreds of schools and talking to kids all over Australia about positive actions they can take to stand up for themselves and their peers. I can relate to every issue my characters face. It’s cool to go back to school and help kids navigate the mind/mine field.
Isabella: Saving Lil and Archie and Cyberia
23. Bachelor of Creative Arts at University of Wollongong. Love my musical theatre! Often find myself singing rather than speaking. Ultimate dream is to be on Broadway!
Brainstorm Productions has made me...
independant, adaptable and developed all my skills.
Students make you feel like a superstar! Love taking thousands of kids on an emotional rollercoaster ride through the story every day. They get so into it they don’t even realise they’re learning heaps of stuff. I get so into it that after eight months in a robot suit I started to believe I was one.
Being a Brainstorm chick keeps the biggest smile on my face!
David J: Saving Lil and Archie and Cyberia.
24 Sydney. Multidisciplinary performer with a strong passion for physical theatre.
The best thing about Brainstorm Productions was knowing, if I could inspire or change one kids life...
make them think about something differently, inspire them to get out of bed and go for a run, or learn to do a flip, to look at life in a more positive way, or open their eyes to something new, then waking up in the morning driving to hundreds of schools, performing hundreds of shows is worth it.
If I inspire one kid, then my job is complete, and I do honestly feel we did this on multiple occasions’.
Favourite student quote: “My greatest hero is people like you because you stick up for people like me” - Year 9 boy after watching Cyberia.
With the passion to open other people’s eyes through performance, Brainstorm Productions also opened my eyes to so many things. I got to see so much of the beauty of Australia and met so many wonderful people. The places we went, people we met and experiences we had, I would not swap for anything.
